The Grotto in plain terms

What makes it different.

01

A fellowship of Master Masons

The Grotto brings Brothers from different lodges together without replacing the work, obligations, or identity of the Blue Lodge.

02

Fun with a purpose

Good cheer, memorable gatherings, and family-appropriate fellowship are balanced with genuine service and charitable work.

03

A humanitarian connection

Grottoes support a wider charitable mission centered on dental care for qualifying children with special needs.

04

A tradition of its own

Members are called Prophets, the traditional headwear is a black fez, and the fraternity is known formally as M.O.V.P.E.R.

What it is

Another avenue for fellowship.

  • Friendship among Brothers from many lodges
  • Family-appropriate events and social experiences
  • Service, charity, and community connection
  • A place to build new local traditions together
What it is not

A substitute for your Lodge.

  • It does not replace Blue Lodge membership
  • It is not a separate path around becoming a Master Mason
  • It does not require membership in another appendant body
  • It is not the Shrine and does not use Shrine identity
